Airport tax is a description, not a universal cash instruction
A Passenger Service Charge, often called airport tax, can appear within the ticket price. Garuda Indonesia has published a notice explaining the inclusion of PSC in its domestic and international ticket prices. That notice is useful context for why older advice about a separate payment may no longer describe a booking. I1
It does not establish the treatment of every airline, airport or itinerary. AirAsia's PSC guidance also explains that collection arrangements and applicable charges can differ. Use the carrier operating your flight, the departure airport and the issued ticket as the starting point. I2
Find the taxes and fees section in the booking receipt. If the wording is unclear, ask the airline which compulsory departure charges remain payable separately, if any. Keep its written answer with the booking.
Separate a compulsory charge from something you chose
An airport transfer, extra checked bag, seat selection or lounge purchase is a different line of the trip from an airport charge. Compare those items separately so a total does not become a vague amount labelled airport fees.
For an itinerary with more than one flight, check each operating airline and departure point. A confirmation for the international sector may not explain the domestic flight you bought later on a separate booking.
If a new payment is requested, ask for the name of the charge, who is collecting it and a receipt. Compare it with the itemised ticket and the airline's instructions before assuming that the same cost must be paid twice.

A destination levy needs its own check
Bali's Love Bali service provides official information about its foreign tourist levy and the associated payment voucher. This is a destination-specific process, so an airfare's airport-tax line is not a useful way to decide whether you have completed it. I3
Use the provincial service for the current levy process and any applicable exemption information. Save the confirmation issued for your payment. Entry permission, the airline booking and a destination levy are separate checks; one receipt does not automatically settle the others.
If you are visiting several Indonesian islands, describe the actual itinerary when asking a provider a question. A reply about Bali should not be turned into a rule for every Indonesian destination.
Keep one small departure folder
Before leaving the hotel, keep the flight confirmation, itemised payment receipt and any separately required voucher together. Write down the airport and terminal in the transport booking and confirm the pickup using the airline's required arrival time.
Budget for the optional services you actually intend to use, and confirm the amount and method for any remaining payment with its provider. Do not rely on a fixed cash figure copied from an old forum discussion.
Once those details agree, you can stop searching for a single answer to airport tax in Indonesia. The useful answer is narrower: what is already paid, what is still required and which official service is responsible for each item on your own journey.
